Born on March 10, 1933 in McEwen, Tennessee, Emery attended broadcasting school in Nashville and received his initially radio work at WTPR in Paris, Tennessee. He later on labored at radio stations in Louisiana and the Nashville space just before signing on in 1957 at Nashville’s WSM, the station that carries the Grand Ole Opry, till 1972.
