La Pressure – October (Magic formula Town): Highly-regarded Montreal singer/songwriter Ariel Engle (aka La Power) releases a new album, XO Skeleton, on Sept. 29, with the second advance one and video clip, October, now out.
In a label push release, Engle describes the song this way: “Oct is a time of harvest below [in Montreal]. It’s a time when we settle into darkness and leaves drop from the trees. It’s a time when we turn inward into our garments and protecting shells. It’s a song about the voices we internalize. People today we can no more time see but whose voices and phrases are living on within us and shape us. It’s a track about the uncanny. A track about the cycles of nature, the cycle of everyday living. The tune reminds us that in spite of our grand emotions, we are just like animals and crops, destined to be born, to dwell and to die.”
The mellow and sparse lower showcases Engle’s very clear and haunting voice and her imaginative lyrics (sample: “Memories folded like laundry, In dreams the lifeless and living are the similar, Equal on the imaginary airplane”).
